XL SUPER TROUGH ALGAE PRODUCTION SYSTEM

A Revolutionary Breakthrough in Algae Production

The XL Super Trough System adapts the proven experiences of production agriculture to algae, focusing on large-scale production at the lowest cost. Implemented in 40 acre units, the Super Trough is capable of operating as an open or closed system to meet the needs of various climates, algae species, and applications.

It is a compilation of sub systems to produce, harvest and process algae oils and meals. When combined into a fully integrated operating system, a reliable stream of algae biomass can be harvested and processed.

  • Lowest Capital Cost
  • Low Energy Cost
  • Low Maintenance Cost

The production system includes two key steps. First, we use the Super Trough to grow the algae in a photosynthetic envrionment. The algae use the energy of the sun to convert carbon dioxide and nutrients to oxygen and biomass growth, just like other plants. Then we use a large, fully covered Super Trough for a heterotrophic step to optimize the lipid content and final growth step. Heterotrophic requires the algae be placed in the dark and fed sugars as the carbon source. This final step allows us to concentrate the lipid content and increase overall yields.

The algae are harvested in a unique single belt step that dewaters and dries the algae solids right in the field. We use the waste heat from our in-field CO2 generators for the drying step. The solids are then ready for oil extraction.

There are many current and experimental oil extraction methods for algae, however we suggest using a simple mechanical extraction method because the residual oils provide greater value in the algae meal.

Customers are motivated by various market demands and production concepts, therefore, we offer any part of our system, or the complete A-Z system for algae production.
